Could this be a new trend in the world of hip-hop? I sure f-in hope so.

it was a trend a couple years ago for a vodka ad

these 'new trends' are horribly behind the zeitgeist.

Not the graphics, the message. No more bling-bling and making it rain, ice in your ears and bitches in your Bentley.
- some hip hop is style over substance and some is vice versa... just like all forms of expression7point34

Yeah, his prints are ridiculously over priced. 75% of them are going for more than highly renowned fine artists. A f-in travesty.

i know this has been pointed out, but it's like people are treating him like he is warhol 2.0

there was a lot of good "Conscious hip hop" (I believe that was the term for this branch of hip hop) in the mid/late 90s, not about bling, and plastic shade glasses. I doubt that it will ever become a trend, who is going to want to think of thought provoking lyrics when you can just say "let's get the party started" or "riddin low" ..
that's what people consume.
Regarding obey work being over prized..
well that is just how it is in the world of art. It doesn't matter if its good or original, if its ugly, or a copy of some one else's work. all it matters is the name of the artist. That is how it's always been, and that is how it will always be, no matter how much you dislike obey, he is everywhere, he is part of pop culture, people that dont care about art or graffiti/ stencil in general know his name and recognize his work, it has now become a brand, just like
aunt jemima, shell, or 4 musketeers.- i never said i didn't like him. i just thought the price of his artwork has gotten a bit absurd.lvl_13
- i would also disagree with you on the fact that there "was" a lot of good conscious hip hop". there is still plenty of people producing well thought lyricslvl_13
- producing and creating well-versed lyrics. you just have to wade through a lot more bs though.lvl_13
- well we are not disagreeing then, I believe that there is still good hip hop, I said was, because its not something new, thats all :)Meeklo

nothing I said was targeted to you or anyone here..
I'm just commenting on how I think art works, the more famous an artist gets, the more people are going to pay for his work. and his prints are going to keep going up in price with the years.. and once he dies.. then it will really become insanity..- oh, i know my man. i wasn't taking offense to it or anything. i was more-or-less thinking out type :)lvl_13
- and i totally agree with your point here.lvl_13
- well then... I guess there is only one thing to do... (turns around and gets ready to jump)Meeklo

The song is dope. I think they released another song with Lykke Li that was pretty hot as well.
