I don't understand the second one. The first one should have an exclamation point after cheers. I don't know if baby blue is a good color to represent a pub atmosphere... first color that comes to mind is more of a burnt red. Also, maybe try a different style with the illustrations, they're a bit hard to get at first.
Another thing: based on the proportions of the pint glasses, the 2 people would actually have to walk of shuffle towards each other to actually make contact with their cheers. Unless of course they have freakishly skinny and long arms.
To make the background more interesting you could maybe come up with some random snippets of different conversations that could be overheard at a bar and fill the background with different texts (keep it subtle... to represent that it's background noise.) Make the one conversation you want to stand out a high contrast from the background and "background noise".
