bail them out, but give every American a share of their stock in return.
also, ensure their plan is to eliminate all but one 8 cylinder models from their line ups.
each should provide a viable plan for ensuring that at least 80% of their production vehicles use an alternative fuel source by the end of 2010. this aggressive timeline will require a bigger workforce for the automakers as well as relevant 3rd party's.
ALL executives with paygrades above 500k, should take a significant paycut to help ensure the survival of the company.
All private jets should be sold before bailout begins.
Appointed czars who will report actions within each company - their communication with the government should be transparent and within public view.
finally, a gm and chrysler merge should be seriously considered.

- or just sell them to bmw or vw....obsolete

and foreign car companies have been making cars on US soil for a long time now, very successfully and without unions. maybe GM should take notes.
- It's as much managements fault as it is the UAW.TheBlueOne

- I'm not necessarily anti-union in general, but the UAW is terrible.TheBlueOne
- foreign car companies don't have to pay for years of pensions from the start of car making...AMERICAN car making. Of course they don't have a problem.tedismyfav
