Thinking of getting a mid range (£200-£400) Acoustic, anyone know of any decent ones?
Don't mind if it's a standard Dred' / Roundback or Cutaway - Just as long as it plays well!

brands to look at:
Taylor, Martin, Collings, Lowden, Takamine, Yamaha.I'd say for £200-400 (essentially cheap for an acoustic) you'll get the best quality if you go for a Yamaha or Takamine, both great build quality for the price (trust the japanese).
Don't get a fender or gibson, both crappy for acoustics.

Yeah the ones I've played (Fender's and Gibsons) are just not up to it!
How about Ibanez - played any of theirs!?
Cheers for the advice dude!

£200-400 ?? That honestly won't buy a good acoustic.
Electrics have better guitars for that price range. For that price a Yamaha would be your best bet.
Fender do have a few decent models for that price, but they are not as good sounding as other for that price range. Fender though does have good quality for that range. It's the sound that's rather dull and with no sustain.I'm a fender dude but admit their acoustics aren't great.
I also owned a Martin that was about 1300 us. Great sound, sustain and build. For acoustics Taylor would be my favourite, but those babies cost over 2000 grand. Guild are good too. Look at Martin if you can. They are pricey as well, but they have some relatively affordable alternatives. Perhaps you should look into Washburn too. I hate those guitars, but got the chance to play a couple of them and they sounded and felt pretty good.
You first options should be Yamaha and Takamine.
And also look around for Martin and Fender as you might find something worth paying for in the 350–500 range.

Avoid Ibanez. They are awful.
Basically avoid going with companies that are big or that specialize in Electric guitars. Fender and Gibson fall in this category. Washburn Gretsch are about the same in this regard. They tend to simply suck with their "affordable" line of acustics. Their pricey ones are really good. There just seems to be a big gap in between their cheap and expensive ones.

I have a taylor big baby. I love it. And because of the scale length I can reach chords that I couldn't on full size guitars!
The first track on my myspace was recorded on my big baby (the gypsy style track):

as was 'Map of the World' a Metheny cover

Cheers for the advice guys!
Never had a decent acoustic, always been cheap ones - so thanks for steering me on the right track!
- You'll need to shell out more for a really 'decent' acoustic but £400 should get you a passable oneBaskerviIle
- Me thinks so too - the Big Baby sounds sweet from what I've seen on the tinterwebz, gonna have a go on one at lunch if I can find one! Cheers again :)Jonanon
