Say you have a photograph that has text on it you need to change... not just get rid of. How can you replace the text and make it look like it was actually part of the original image and not just plunked on top?
(I have a photograph of a building and I need to change the text on the 'for lease' sign)

try not to approach it as you're replacing the text. remove the text first then when its perfect, add your new text

I've done that but the sign is behind glass.. and typing over the image is unrealistic...

If the image over all has some sort of distressed look to it that isn't easily faked, and what you need to re-spell out isn't terribly long, you might try stealing existing letters and repositioning them into your new text, if that's doable. If not, find a matching font, then after adding new type, try to match what ever distressed feel on top. Blurring a touch, adding noise, and capturing an area of texture, hitting it with hipass then setting to a mode that works are all effective routes.

do you have a link?
if there's glass above, you can play with the opacity at some parts to give it some reflection
