i'm not getting any feedback and im not sure what to go forward with. i've emailed my CD to ask for a discussion and i've had the project manager try to set up a meeting. nothing. this isn't the first time this has happened with this company and im at a loss as to what to do since i just started here. seems the company is dealing with some problems that, if i was aware of before, i def wouldn't have come on board. in problems like this where you feel the leadership is failing you, including the CCO & the CD, who do you go to? do i confront them and keep asking them to step up? or do i do it all on my own and go forward with whatever i want to do even if the copywriters have gone in another direction? am i not doing all im supposed to do as an AD?

You need to run with what you feel is the right thing to do for the project. You take the lead if you are not getting leadership. You step up - even if you dinged for it, you show leadership and that is never a bad thing.

why don't you march over to the CDs office? Why just sending emails? I'd try to deal directly with the CD first. If you get blown off then go over up but not until you've given the CD a blatent chance.

I hear inaction is the best course of action

she's been offsite the last week, and the CCO has been helping out instead but both have been very hard to track down. now today and this weekend i am offsite. will be in their offices first thing on monday for sure. but still no dice on getting any communications as of yet via phone or email.
plus the copywriters have been overworked and believe this idea we're "moving forward with" is the scapegoat idea and refuse to get down and dirty and try hard to make something better

does Art Director outrank copywriter ?

watch the last couple of episode of mad men. in there is your answer.

i would hope so, but no matter what i try to say or dictate to them, they just ignore it, and i don't know if i can pull rank or what.
- Stylus0
rat them out to the CD or whoever for ignoring your direction. If that doesn't work leave a package on their desks ;)

so in general, does the art director in fact out rank the copywriter?
- Stylus0
I'm not sure I'm a flash developer... I'm out ranked by everybody

The first issue you have is, the idea of rank. If you feel that you are not getting the results you want, you document it. Trying to out rank someone only creates tension. If you want to make the decision, say that you are making the decision and will be your responsibility which needs to be also documented.
In terms of rank, if you are in advertising, copy writer out rank you. If you are in pure design, you out rank the copy.

SHE ?
That's the answer to your problem my friend.

Never give your CD a chance to plead ignorance. I had one who was notorious for coming in at the end of a project only to loudly proclaim he never approved the direction we were going. Pure BS. It was a deflection that only succeeded in pointing out his shortcomings. Always keep them in the loop, if only to protect yourself.
That is of course if you have a problem with your CD. If not, ignore this. cheers!

don't go forward by yourself. you will most likely have to re do the project because of ego or whatever.

you don't want my advice

do your own thing and make sure you get credit for it (but only if it's good)
