Most companies are laying off people at the moment around the world - but we have been looking for more for a couple months.
In brisbane it seems there is a severe shortage of designers who are actually *good*. I know good is relative but still lol Maybe we are looking in the wrong places or they have all pissed off to sydney?? I think we've had like 10 extremely crap university graduates apply, which saddens me lol (do they teach these kids anything at all?)
Just yesterday I heard of a big name agency that had 90 staff 3 months ago down to 10..~! Not to mention others just going bust..
Anyway...whats the current design climate like around the rest of the world? (for those looking for work or hiring)

design school is a waste for real world stuff. When i got out I was like what a waste of an education. I have learned more in two years working in advertising then school could ever teach me or prepare me for. I really sucked as a designer when I got out of school and I am just now starting to find my talent.

Well there is not an infinite amount of talent, I heard somewhere there are about 200k people in interactive design in the US, that's only about enough to fill a medium sized town. Then you got to consider that only a fraction of those are any good. And that most of them will probably be concentrated in certain areas. Then you can understand why it will be tough to staff certain positions even in tough times.
