what's the cheapest way? (other than knocking out colour)
want to print some business cards - white on black.
foil, screen - any others - which is most economical?

I'd think on a full black sheet you'd have to do multiple hits of opaque white for it really stand up.
Would you consider a metallic? They tend to carry much more density.

Depends on quantity.
Screening for less than a thousand or so. Or as sky2x says, multiple hits of opaque white (offset).

will be about 500 i think...
so i can print it litho? i didn't realise... will the double hit bleed at all? - i've got some quite small type (7pt)
i imagine that'll be cheaper than screening.- 7pt would pushing it on double white.
9pt or so, depending on the font.pylon

7pt won't work so well for screen printing
a matte white foil would look pretty sweet stamped in letterpress style
- indian_pole0
what about litho? anyone done it?
- indian_pole0
foil is a little too pricey unfortunately!
- Where... it's usually pretty cost effective.tparsons
- scotland - there's only really a couple of places that do it - so all printers outsource it
indian_pole - and the guys that do it only deal with the printers.indian_pole

I've seen it done but most of the time it looks pretty bad... unless you are putting down some serious cash for multiple hits of opaque white. With the multiple hits your price will go up drastically due to the registration on the small type.
- I wouldn't want to ask a printer I like to register multiple hits of 7pt type.sky2x

Silkscreening works well. This was printed white and blue solid/opaque:
http://www.era404.com/portfolio/…The printer was Christman screenprint (800-962-9330). Ask for Michael or Dave Christman. Mention us (era404) and they'll probably give you a good discount.
- thanks dude but i'm in scotland!
indian_pole - lol. oops. well silkscreeners are a dime a dozen.era4O4
- you sure your linked job here was screenprinted? doesn't look like it.horton

@ 7pt type, and if you're on a budget, knockout is pretty much your only option. foil would be your only other option but hella expensive.
and from your project description sounds totally doable, so why not?

I printed two hits of white on a Navy Blue stock once. It still wasnt as opaque as I wanted it to be. Silver would probably be more successful on a black stock. Or, as someone already suggested just knocking it out of a flood of black.

screenprinting gives great results.

i'm thinking foil might be the way to go - can't really have silver - just did a bunch of silver on grey cards - they look great! - but this lot needs to be white... although foil's gonna cost me around a pound (GBP) per card at a small run!
- plz.. why not not knockout? just curious. is it a specialty black craft paper or something?horton
- looks and feels nowhere near as nice as using dark stock and light inkindian_pole

indian_pole, Ian is pretty helpful at IST (is still foiling but he's good for short runs):

Otherwise, double hit of opaque white on black is not too bad (though silver is probably a bit punchier). Robert Horne Kaskad and PaperCo.'s Popset are pretty well priced as well for a black uncoated stock.
- nice one dude.indian_pole
- No bother - say hi to Derm!Gifto

why do you want to run with your shoes tight together? just get the whitest stock they got (as it seams you want whiteiewhite) and do knock out.
