He recently claimed that he is the "voice of his generation". "Kanye West is to music what Michael Jordan was to basketball — at least that's what West thinks, in his humble estimation."

I do think he has some good music, but having a personality like that (even if it's "necessary" for the industry) turns me off. A lot of sampling is going on too, which makes his music appear repetitive. I can't listen to it for too long. I know it's better than a lot of other pop / rap / hip-hop artists.

i have some respect for his past albums and i'm not a complete hater, i have his music, i've seen his shows. he's got some talent, but this album is absolute shite.

I also think people forget it's a concept album.
Which given how successful he is, is actually admirable from the standpoint of continuing to try something "new".
... Though in this case, I'm worried it's going to be like anybody who first plays a moog and then all of a sudden you are finding ways to add them to tracks even if it doesn't necessarily work.

Kanye's personality is somewhat dumb, I think he's just a little bit more immature than anyone should really be. Remember the episode of Punk'd when they got him, and he was still relatively new and unknown, he kept going on and on about "I need to get on a plane to Pear-Eeee" pronouncing Paris like a buffoon?
I don't think he was playing around, I think he was genuinely trying to be cool and thought that was cool; most of the stupid stuff he says reminds me of that. It's like he has no gauge to judge whether he should open his mouth or not.
That said, I admire him for pulling off some of the most ridiculous outfits and styles around. I like reading his columns in Complex whenever he's in there.

Every track I've ever heard from Kanye West was utter shit. It only takes 8 bars to figure out the 5 samples used to create the entire track. His flows are absolutely THE weakest.
His music is all aimed at 14 year old myspace girls. It's shit.

I like Kanye's attitude/ personality.
But I probably wouldn't if we knew each other in real life.
The kind of thing where two complete assholes together end up realizing that only one person in the group can act like that for some reason.

I have to admit I am disappointed.
If its supposed to be an experimental album, well he maybe could have experimented with some different type of sounds too...
If it's a concept album..."using a vocoder" is not a very original concept.
I guess in the end we will see how it fits into his total catalog.
Right now it's more of a log.
