Sorry for another camera thread, but it's more relevant than most shit on here.
I'm looking to buy my girlfriend a camera for Christmas to replace her existing compact:
She doesn't want an SLR – she's not a designer and she isn't particularly technically minded when it comes to taking photos, but she does love taking them and printing them (usual stuff, family, friends, holidays etc) and she's decided she would like an upgrade.
I've researched endlessly on all the usual sites (dpreview.com mainly) and I just can't decide what to get.
She hinted that although she doesn't want an SLR she doesn't necessarily want to just upgrade her compact (confusingly) and has been looking at stuff like this:
or
Are these so called 'superzooms' any good?
Budget up for review for the right camera, but I'm looking around the £200 mark.
I know you guys are right on the money when it comes to camera's and things, would appreciate your thoughts/ideas/advice/recommenda...
Thank you.

go see the other camera threads
my recommendation would be ricoh GX range
ive got a gx100 and its as "point and shoot" or as technical as you'd like it to be.
the gx200 is out now too.

I've got a Panasonic Lumix which is pretty good (TZ5) but this has come out and looks pretty sweet:

I have been looking for a camera for my wife too. Not sure if I want to spend a bit on getting her a leica when she wont really care anyway so leaning towards
a) Panasonic DMC-TZ15
b) Panasonic DMC-LX3
as they both have reasonably wide angle lenses are are basically leicas minus the price tags. The DMC-TZ15 should be within your range.

Or the Ricoh GR (but I think it's not an easy camera to handle):

Canon IXUS ones are usually good (and cheap)
I have a Panasonic DMC-LX3 and it's pretty bulky, plus the pics are wicked IF you have a bit of a fiddle with them, which is fine for me but a woman without Lightroom / Capture 1 may not see the benefit....
I was told that the IXUS ones (and a lot of other simple point & shoot cameras) have a kind of auto contrast thing built in so they do a bit of colour correcting as you shoot.
