so i need to give a price for an album design (jacket, cd, packaging, all that) the artist is on brushfire records, so a pretty legitamate label, im assuming that would make a difference. i have been trying to get some album work lately though, so im wondering if i should go low to make sure i get it, or is there a price you pros around here would suggest? thanks.

if it's for a vinyl it's probably worth more.

Album art gigs definitely can turn out to be a shit show. Prepare to have artistic differences with not only the Label people, but the band, the bands girlfriends etc etc. It's a tough one, because this is when design and art lines are blurred. It can get sticky. You might find yourself, if you're a true "fine artist" having to comprimise your style to fit the job. If you're just a "designer" oh well, you're used to it by now.

depends, who's the artist?

not sure who the artist is yet. havent pushed that far yet, i guess they are new to the label.

Right on. Brushfire is pretty wicked... really good folks, great label.
Since it's a new artist on their roster, and not G. Love or ALO or something, you'll probably have to go a lil low. I would suggest anywhere from 2 - 5k (a price that would include x amount of hours)... then just charge if they go over the included hours.
OR
Do the whole project hourly.
Now... keep in mind to make sure this is a cd only design (digipak is more likely for Brushfire). If they decide to make a record at some point, you'll be stuck with a design that's about 30% the size :)
Good luck!
- really like your work, btw.OnesandZeros
