I've just bought a new MacBookPro and I'm determined to avoid using Suitcase to manage my fonts. What are other people using out there and who recommends which package the most?

Linotype FontExplorer X

Suitcase? - I just don't get it...
Why do so many 'creatives' insist on paying for something when you can get something which does a better job for nothing? What's creative about that?
"Oh, well, we've always used suitcase"
"We purchased Quark for the same reason"

For your information I didn't 'BUY' suitcase, and I don't use Quark. For the record whilst I'd agree that in many instances opensource/free software is better (Firefox, for example), Something 'Free' does not always mean 'Better'.
Why 'some' creatives bother to respond to threads with just their views on the world rather than actually trying to make a helpful suggestion is also beyond me. Perhaps you think we're all better off with your worldly wisdom and assumptions about the habits of people you actually know nothing about? We're not.

Cheers Stewart, very helpful. Thanks.

Well I use Suitcase in work, which is fine most of the time but can be buggy as fuck when it's in a mood.
I've also used FontAgent Pro at home which was much worse, not very stable and prone to crashes and conflicts. Though it might be better now. http://www.insidersoftware.com/
Now I use Linotype FontExplorer X, at home cos the price is right, its very stable and helped to clear out the system after having problems with fonts on both my girlfriends pb and my pb so I would highly recommend it.

I hear you Ian. Suitcase is as buggy as something that is fucking buggy. Font AgentPro didn;t seem to cut the mustard either, but this Linotype seems to be really quite good.
Thanks for your feedback. See Stem - this is called useful.

Wow momento, cool your jets! It wasn't intended as a personal attack.
I was simply making a comment on comments I have heard in an attempt for people justifying software purchases. My Boss being a prime example...

- it doesn't do cascades and you can't print anything out from font explorer, those are the only drawbacks...Greedo

I use suitcase at work (server based) and we seem to have no end of trouble with it. Losing connection with server etc.
I have tried FontExplorer and found it rock solid and can quickly arrange all font in alphabetical folder etc. Resolves duplicates/corrupt fonts etc.
I would recommend it.

I think the only real drawbacks of font explorer are that you can't print any style samples and it doesn't do cascades, other than that, it's okay in my book...
but my book only has three pages...
