Setting Long Copy

  When setting long blocks of copy, what do you base your spacing after a paragraph on? Leading? Point size? Do you eyeball it?

  I was debating the point with someone recently and wondered what everyone else does.

  I start with leading, then move down to point size if it looks too open. You could also just use indents rather than line spaces.

  BTW for columns you can get away with point size spaces if you tweak the first baseline orientation, using either Leading or Fixed. This is really only advisable if your type is the same size on the first line of each column.
