i just encountered the endless world of photoshop brushes...(textures, swooshes, trees, etc.)what are your thoughts on them? used with knowledge of design and care are they 'okay'?
perhaps i'm making a mountain out of a molehill, but for some reason i just can't escape that feeling of being a fake when i use them...
help me feel somewhat sane again

What about when you use the pre-set brushes in PS? You don’t feel like a plagiarist then. Relax! Obama’s in, my dear – it’s time to just chill!

sooo true.
*wipes forehead in relief.
thank you.

you think when you see those brushes on packages or designs those designers make them? Ha no. we don't have time to do that sh*t. I think its ok to use them, I normally end up tweaking or stripping down when i pull art.

Personally, I can’t remember the last time I created anything from scratch. Though that could say more about my short-term memory than my artistic integrity.

i'm having trouble with that myself...these days are starting to blend into one long week. though that could say something about all of the hours spent in the studio and my lack of social life as of late. hahahaha. ha....ha.

What is this thing "social life" you speak of?

So it wasn't you that met pr2 then.

brushes are just tools, just like effects, etc.
... depends on the user

Use them wisely and they are fine.

I want a "makes everything look wet with expectation" brush. Then I want a "cover everything in gold leaf" brush. Then I want a "just what do I have to do to get rid of this rash on my face" brush.

You need to be able to create something that fellow designers don't look at and immediately spot that it is a collection of brushes unimaginatively plastered on a background.
Do not do this then sell it to stock imagery sites, as these knock-off pieces of 'design' eventually make it into the public realm, 'enlightening' clients and project managers alike about their new upcoming 'edgy' street projects.

I have a brush set that creates entire layouts in tDR style circa '98... and I don't feel like I'm plagiarizing at all...
- so you are the one that gave it to rybo?Jnr_Madison

with great power comes great responsibility...this is the essence of the photoshop brush.

One PhotoShop brush to rule them all, etc.
