Any way to change the output of a screen capture on a mac from a png to a jpg?
I tried searching the help system, but to no avail.
Thanks.

it seems everytime i take a screen capture to send out a proof for the marketing director or anyone using a PC they cannot view the png file. So I end up taking a screen shot and saving it out as a jpg anyway.

download onyx... it allows you to change it easily in there - otherwise its into the terminal you go....

That's strange, if you open it with imageviewer then it should work. Could even open it with Firefox.

Instructing your client how to easily open PNG files is probably much more valuable toward your time, especially since it sounds like you're working with this guy frequently.

I use this thing called SaveScreenie, you can change the output of your screenshots to a bunch of different formats.

Little known utility for Mac is “grab.” Find it in your utilities folder and it should make your troubles go away.

"Open up a Terminal and type:
defaults write NSGlobalDomain AppleScreenShotFormat JPEG
You won’t receive any confirmation but it does work, and testing it out is simple, just take a screenshot and look for the JPG file on your desktop. You can actually change the format to things other than JPEG and PNG; PICT and TIFF are also formats to use if you’re so inclined. Simply replace JPEG with any of the other filetypes and it will work the same."

tell the marketing director or anyone using a PC they absolutely can open the file in any number of apps including a web browser.
