Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing or has a fix for these probs. I have them both at work AND on my home mac and its killing me!
When I run illustrator even on basic files like a few squares or whatever the performance slows down to a crawl. Especially if moving items or using the hand (drag tool). This even happens if I run no other software and try after a fresh startup. I have run diagnostics and my processor doesn't appear challenged.
In photoshop I get similar problems, especially if I use the scale tool it'll basically lock up for up to 40 seconds or so. doesn't matter how small the file is.
Sometimes these problems clear for a few minutes on restart but always come back.
I have tried-
1. reinstalling the system (leopard 10.5.5 on both).
2. Trashing all adobe preferences. Updating Microsoft apps (I read that here somewhere... but my mac at home has no microsoft apps on it at all)
3. Made sure all my adobe software is up to date. (yes they are legal copies)
4. Googled my ass off looking for explanations.I haven't had a chance to completely reinstall Adobe on either yet though that'll be the next step
Work Machine: 2 x 2 GHz Dual Core Intel with 3GB RAM
Home: 2.4 GHz core 2 Duo Modbook with 4GB RAM
and no, an update to CS4 isn't an option just yet
Thanks!

did you do a clean leopard install or just update?
How many fonts do you have activated?dunno, that doesn't happen to me and I have much lower spec on my machine.

Its weird cause I have different set ups on both machines.
My home machine came with a clean install of leopard and I've only installed about 5 additional fonts so far. Its basically new but I ran a clean reinstall of leopard anyway.
My work machine was just updated to leopard from tiger (not by me, we have a tech guy who does it) and has a bunch more than standard system fonts (maybe 20-30) but barely any.
I guess I'll do a full CS3 reinstall. Just don't have timie right now, but may be worth making it I think!

Repair permissions? Cron scripts? Track down Applejack and reboot into Single User mode and do a deep clean?

Sorry so is it the actual application running slowly or is when you have PSD's placed in Illustrator?

i had a similar problem recently and i backed everything up and erased the entire puter and re-installed everything. the program and the puter is working even better than ever.
i would suggest this over just re-installing the individual programs.
