Just got an email with someone wanting an old domain of mine. Any advice in trying to extract a good and fair value for it?
It seems that i have been contacted by the web designer tasked with creating the site.

Renew the domain, and tell them the price has sky-rocketed!

but also remember that it doesn't cost anything to add a "dash" or a "online" or a "hello" on the domain

no way! you took the time and effort to purchase it. Why would you give something away? Charge them a good amount considering their size and business.

Yea im not sure what the size is yet. Thats what im kinda worried about. If a large/med sized company wanted to buy a domian - would'nt they just say ... yea this is a small biz/endeavor with no money - what holds them to being honest about how much money they have to spend or how much it is worth to them ?
I asked them to send an offer - if he does'nt by tonight ill try to give him something in the 2-10k range.
- one of my company's clients sold one recently for 1/4Mil... just saying.monNom

Do this...
register all possible combination of your domain name (mydomainname, domainname-now, domainname-online, domainnameUSA, mydomainname, etc) and do it for all extentions (com, net, ca, uk, net, etc).
By doing this, your real domain just gain some valuable equity.

how long have you had the domain? tally up the years and cost and charge them something like that.
if you're not using it and it's just sitting there costing you to host and own yearly then why play hardball when you could make a little scratch and move on with your life?
there's no reason to be a jerk off about it. that's what's wrong with the entire world, the "only the sun rises for free" mentality is ruining everything.
