Im trying to find a good trusted place to give my old macbookpro away to some kid who cant afford one. Anyone have a good org for that? Excluding your dorm room or bookbag of course.

What a nice gesture. It would be cool if you were just in a library and handed it to some kid that looked as though he/she could use one.
Let us know what happens.

Easy....post it on craigslist, and screen all the cheap people who just want to get something for free.

Yeah I was thinking of something like that, but would rather do it through someone who would give it to a kid who needed it most, who was completely devestated by life that sort of thing.

Call flavorful, he need one.

I´d look around for (local) charities/churches who grant scholarships to or support the poor but bright kids. they know the needy ones and you would push a little achiever forward.
plus: double-check if your HD is clean!!!

That is very kind of you Sharif.... I believe there are organizations that focus on the arts... maybe that would be a nice idea....

i agree with gung. those are quality suggestions that are sure not to fail brightening some kid's life.

or, much better: you could hook up a whole school, if you send it to a 3rd world country. would have much more impact.
if you have a trouble finding a charity, I could link you up with a couple of german ones (e.g. working in south-america, nepal). mail me if you like.

We have given alot of stuff away, and it is near impossible to be 100% sure that it will go to someone who is truly in need (even when giving to charities). I would say do your best to get it into the hands of someone through charity or other means, but at the end of the day I think what really matters is that your purpose behind it was to truly help someone.
Having said that, a personal connection might be your best bet. Ask around surely you might know someone (who might know someone else) who could really use a laptop and can't afford one.

call your local school and ask them which kid is the brightest, but gets picked on because his parents can't afford to put name-brand clothes on his/her back.
but i also like the idea of giving it to a 3rd world country school, tho it'd be kind of expensive to ship.. :/

Hey guys, I really appreciate the comments, Ill let you know how it goes towards the end of the week, be well!

^ transportation shouldn´t be the problem, most org´s will have regular shipments anyway or could deliver the machine themselves. they bring tons of stuff when they visit the schools... :)

You could create a QBN PSB and give it away to the winner.
No, seriously, it's great that you're thinking of others before your self.
gung's advice is good, I would ask around friends and family.. look or someone bright but poor.

^ something seems not right about that site. you sure it´s legit? they run the "boat with a cause"-program as well, there´s no contact persons, no charities or info on who benefits in the end. ?

thats very nice of you Sharif.
I envy the amounts of good karma you will get from an action like this
