This is prob dead simple but I can't get it. I have 500 pics I need to resize to 6"x4". Some are portrait some are landscape. How do I create an action that'll do this in one go?

You dont need action, go get, Resize!

Copy them into a folder, then choose the folder in resize! choose the new dimensions and quality and you are good to go

this is what ive done when ive needed to do batches
first of all , seperate the images into two folders
1) portrait
2) landscapesthen batch convert each folder seperately

record an action that resizes the image size by percentage, so it doesn't matter wheter portait or landscape. just check what percentage leads to the 6"x4" result, start recording action, goto image size, enter percentage > ok, stop action. then batch it on the 500 pics folder.
- in case the aspect ratio changes during resizing, this won't work. then look at 23kon above.invisiblechamber

Image processor didn't work. What I did in the end incase anyone ever comes back to this...
Use preview to rotate the landscape images to portrait.
Open one image - new action...
300dpi, autolevels, 5 x 3.75" [same ratio as digitial camera takes them, if like me you forgot to change the setting], canvas size - 6x4". Save. All good, about 15 mins work and off to Asda to print!
