how would you resize a whole bunch of images of COMPLETELY different dimensions and proportions to, say, fit within a box of 340 by 340 pixels?
I can't seem to find a batch option in any piece of software that does this.
You can either scale, resize (but only one side, not necessarily the longest or shortest side..)
i have run out of ideas..

I'd split out the pictures into two groups, horizontal & portrait, then do it in two batches.

i'll do that then..

If you have CS3 then can you not create action in photoshop the use File>Automate>Batch?
- janne760
lol why did i never think of that??

In Photoshop, it's called "actions." You record your actions by doing it all to one image, then you go to File, Batch something... and apply it to a folder.

If you have lightroom it will export/resize based on "longest edge"

anyone know how to batch save for web yet?
- danthon0
open image in PS>make action>record>resize>export save to web>close file, do not save>stop action. run batch
- or better yet just use my method. its no different and doesn't require all the extra steps
sikma - I agree, but it seems like he wants more compression control
danthon - it has the same level of compression control....sikma
- not for png and others. Plus I usually like to do diff sizes and thumb images at the same time.danthon
- you can save out various sizes formats depending on how you record your actionjedipunk
