We are all going to die

Most of these contraptions fail under load, as the weak magnetic force that their motion relies on is overcome by the resistance of a generator. You'll rarely see anything more than a light bulb hooked up to one of these as a proof of 'power output'.
Nice idea, and probably has a use for something, but you're not going to be powering your household with it any time soon.

welcome to earth my friend. the mothership didn't really school you too well before dropping you here did it.
free energy, justice for all, quality health care and government handouts are a lot like communism. in theory they make sense, right up until you involve people. then they all kinda go to shit.
nice thought though. doesn't hurt to be an optimist.
- I always found it amusing that communism in its theory makes sense to people.rafalski
- None of this will be free, but fusion power wil be cheap at source... the trick will be how to distribute it..ribit
- my point is the oil crisis is not the end of the world. I wish it would run out so we would have some real progress..ribit
- Yo, the progress is likely already taken care of, it's just being held back until the profits have leveled off from the oil industry.neferiu

even technically-free energy will still have distribution costs, but ulimately thats where we will get to...
- Not to mention maintenance and administrative costs.Nathan_Adams

Free energy is politically wrong. It's not only oil companies who are interested in sabotaging it. Scientists invested too much effort and careers into idiotic war with CO2 and energy companies invested too much into atom to let free energy ideas suddenly go mainstream.
- And that's why we're all fucked. Sad but true.5timuli
- you're forgetting about competition between countries... it will eventually change..ribit
- You mean, there will only be one country?rafalski
- one world. [insert spliff and several confused stoner white dudes in bob marley hats here]airey
- nooo. lots of countries, competing.. the best energy solution will win..ribit
- I know what you mean, but they don't like competition and are going to tackle this meddling all countries into one ;)rafalski

just watch this and tell me that it isn't compelling - this is stuff happening TODAY. agreed that it isnt 'perpetual motion' per se, but 1% energy reduction per year (over many years) isn't exactly anything to snuff at.
- Llyod0
Pons and Fleischman sort of set that back a bit for legit scientists.
- ribit0
looks like its just another perpetual motion machine... (i.e. it doesn't work)
The real breakthrough will happen when they solve fusion, then we will get lots of cheap, clean energy...
- why would anyone sell fusion produced energy cheaply?lowimpakt
- they wouldn'tLlyod
- cheap fuel?gung_hoek
- only if the gov leaned socialistLlyod
- not perpetual motion - sustained motion with 1% reduction of output per year.robco
- You mena like Bush bailing out the stock market with billions upon billions of dollars? That kind of socialist leaning?NONEIS
- will run for years and years with almost constant output.robco
- the market will make the price fall, and fusion will be really abundant and cheap (if they ever work out how to do it)ribit
- could be a while yet...ribit

did anyone notice that the parts of their machine didn't look like they fit right? the pieces were lopsided when they spun.

others have been saying the same thing - remember Steorn last year? http://www.steorn.com
What I don't understand is that, at a house/business level, solar and wind are technically (bar maintenance) free once you have bought the kit.
Micro-generation is a fairly well established priority for the UK government.... http://www.berr.gov.uk/whatwedo/…
- robco0
mmm... ok. now lets hear some back up for said 'nay saying'. check out some of the other videos - scientists suddenly dying etc.
- digdre0
yes imagine all the poor sjeiks. impossible.
aint happenin
- Llyod0
yeah that won't happen for a few hundred centuries
- robco
I've been looking at this a little bit - do we have any nay sayers in the crowd?
