wordup - i tried it out the first day and it was pretty solid in keeping to a general "theme" when picking tracks. Yay Genius.

marketing genius
- neferiu0
The only downside is that i think it's reporting every play you make to itunes central servers for their market research.. it also makes the genius work better, but yeah... kinda... creepy.

i don't know if they are recording the playlist info. that would be a huge amount of data and traffic into a server for what? they already send me emails, recommended playlists and i already spend up there anyway.
this factoid may be up there with any other tinfoil hat wearing belief structure. might be true though...

I don’t care if they know what I am playing or not. At least someone might then recognise my awesome taste in music.

- That's what Last.FM is for. :)neferiu

If im not mistaken, im pretty sure it said something about submitting my library info to apple when i activated genius... ? It took a good 15 minutes or something retarded like that - it never had to do it again and I wasn't really paying attention...
- yeah, forgot about that. well at least it made it work well.airey

This is from the iTunes license agreement:
http://www.apple.com/legal/itune…b. Genius. When you opt-in to the Genius feature, Apple will, from time to time, automatically collect information that can be used to identify media in your iTunes library on this computer, such as your play history and play lists. This includes media purchased through iTunes and media obtained from other sources. This information will be stored anonymously and not associated with your name or iTunes account. When you use the Genius feature, Apple will use this information and the contents of your iTunes library, as well as other information, to give personalized recommendations to you.
Apple may only use this information and combine it with aggregated information from the iTunes libraries of other users who also opt-in to this feature, your iTunes Store purchase history data, aggregated purchase history data from other iTunes Store users, and other information obtained from third parties, to:
• Create personalized playlists for you from your iTunes library.
• Provide you with recommendations regarding media and other products and services that you may wish to purchase.
• Provide recommendations regarding products and services to other users.

genius, for me, i think is a waste of time....if you listen to a lot of popular styled music, perhaps no...but throw some indie-international style stuff that iTunes has yet to capitalize on...and its a craptastic feature, IMO
- Example?neferiu
- It doesn’t just include stuff on the ITMS, but whatever is on your HD.MrOneHundred

Does it do porn? Or is it just music?

try www.pandora.com instead
- why? i want to listen to my actual music on my machine?airey

so i need an itunes account to be able to use genius, but the problem is that my country is not in apples list of cool countries.
i feel discriminated :(

Its pretty accurate I'd say.
Sigur Ros - Svefn-G-Englar ->
David Bowie - Neukoln ->
Modest Mouse - Trucker Atlas ->
Yo La Tengo - Night Falls on Hoboken ->
Smashing Pumpkins -> Thru The Eyes of Ruby ->
GYBE -> East Hastings.... etc.All in similar vein, all I wouldn't consider Mainstream/Pop

albums are best enjoyed as complete albums. if i really want a mixtape i'll make it myself.
- You can have both. And this is like a mixtape from a friend.MrOneHundred

i realise it's much more modern / hip / cool and what the kids are doing to dis itunes and offer an online tool.
but.
what i i want to play my music. the music i choose to have in itunes only. you know, my stuff? stuff i like?
also.
why to people, many of which sell their artistic talents for client work, call anything whorey? surely graphic designers / commercial artists (as we were called before someone came up with graphic designer) are the spice girls or the artworld, sold out from the start?
just asking. pls discuss.
- i say whorey 'cause it takes you to the itunes store and i'd rather pirate musicscarabin_net
