You know. It's probably a good idea to keep building below sea level.

Us humans are a funny bunch, eh?
Disasters like this could all be avoided if we didnt build our towns and sities on:
- Floodplains
- Below Sea Level
- On Fault Lines
- At the foot of active volcano'sWhen i switch on the news and see that some little town down in england has been submerged underwater for the third year running - im like WTF - WHY MOVE THERE IN THE FUCKIN' FIRST PLACE.
My no1 rule for buying property would be NOT to buy property at a waterfront. In edinburgh theres LOADS of flats down in leith (near the waters edge). Will these places seem that much of a good investment in 10-20 years time when the oceans have risen a good few metres due to global warming?

Right, so you live on a piece of property that's on a floodplain/ on a fault line/ near an endangered coast. You wanna get out and move someplace safer. So you sell it, since you've sunk too much money into it to just abandon it. Maybe since it's in a somewhat endangered area, you lower your price.
Someone sees it, goes, i can live with that risk, and the price is great, it won't happen to me yadda yadda yadda, the cycle continues. Until it does get washed away, then there's a real chance to improve things.

Sorry, I don't have much sympathy for the idiots that will rebuild their homes so that next years hurricane can demolish it once again and expect the U.S. taxpayers to foot the bill.

Wow, just read this article on CNN. Pretty terrible for people who lived in Galveston. In essence, many people will be told that they cannot rebuild where they once had houses, because the tide line has changed so much that they would now be building on public property. It's an interesting read, and you've gotta love this quote:
""We're talking about damn fools that have built houses on the edge of the sea for as long as man could remember and against every advice anyone has given," A.R. "Babe" Schwartz said."
- This is old state law, everyone knows about it in Tejas.robotron3k
