So im thinking about making a move to either freelance (which i did for 3 years and know what to expect) or to another company which seems like a possible fit. The thing is, i dont wanna jump into another position with unrealistic expectations, so I kinda wanted to get a feel for what things are like out there.
im sure some of you are curious about it too.
How many of you actually actually love your jobs (as opposed to what you do)
Do you get to work from home when you want to?
Do you actually get the time / opportunity / room to be creative?
How stressed out are you?

i work at an in house marketing dept as a designer 8:30-5 then freelance when i get home. Always thinking about leaving the 9-5 and just freelancing but cant get myself to do it...

I was asking powertoni. Again, powertoni:
Where do you work, what do you do there, and why are you sick of it?
(and no reason to give names)

My advice...don't hesitate to leave....look around. Start interviewing and make sure you ask tons of questions to get the best feel for the job you possibly can. Don't be afraid to be blunt during an interview, afterall you don't want to get stuck in another job you hate.
My last job I only worked at 6 months...it wasn't stressful at all, but I hated it. It was all information architecture and wire framing, and no designing. So even though I knew 6mos at a gig would not look so hot on the resume, I got another job, and I am really glad I did.
I remember one interview I went to, I ended up working half the day. Decided I didn't want to work there, but it was sweet to be able to experience it without out committing. I know this is not typical, but you never know what kind of opportunities you'll be presented with when you start looking for another job.

freelancing btn jobs really helps clear your head, and really think about why you hated the last job. I think, in general, the bigger companies tend to work shorter hours, but not generally as creative. med size to small gigs I find more satisfying to get work that you'd be happy to include in your portfolio.

powertoni ask not what your job can do for you but what you can do for your job.

Still trying to figure out the formula. It's a complex combination of environment, people/coworkers and the actual work. I guess money and benefits are in there too. Anyone who has it down should share.

if you get really bummed out about it remember that the jobless rates are going up and that it will probably get worse. keep the job and the freelance and realize you're much better off than millions of others.

There's no such thing as a perfect job. These days, I look for the balance between quality of life and work.
Why are you sick of your job?
- klipklap0
work sucks ass.

Life without work, even when its busy "paying dues" work_
keeps your mind sane.Be grateful you have something.
A lot of people want full time right now and don't have it.
