If you can try out the various sizes at your retailer, give them all a go.
The A4 is awesome but takes up a fair amount of desk real-estate. Mind, if you've got a 24 or 30" monitor then the A4 or even A3 would match nicely.
The A5 fits in most laptop bags.

I have a Intuos3 A4 but don't really need it that size and sometimes feel it is a little large. If I bought again I would get an A5

- same here.
Unless you're using the thing full-time A4 is overkill... A5 is the best combo of usefulness and size.pylon - size.pylon

I started out with the 4x6, loved it so much, moved up to the 6x11... At times I feel the 6x11 is a bit big (if you have the desk space, not an issue), but I have no complaints on how this works on a new gen 24" imac. I don't even use a mouse really anymore. This is coming from a person who went through about 8 different mice to find one that is comfortable, light and accurate (best buy hates me, I returned every single one of them). I gave up and finally bought a wacom and will never go back. I still use the 4x6 at work. I find myself almost on a mission to convert mice users to tablets in some weird religious like way as I have finally seen the light. Alot of people I talk to have never tried or owned the bamboo in the past, the intous is the way to go IMHO.
