Understood now. So what you need is to have somebody build an egg-shaped area with a built in desk in it, such that at the push of a button the entire area retreats into the floor. Then when you need to work on your website, access your hard drives, or have additional help, you can just push the button.
Also, you'll probably just want to keep the additional help inside the egg-area at all times. Quicker that way.

if you're going to buy a computer, you always go for maximum one. because they will have a faster machine soon or later. so i would say go for MacPro.

i just bought a 20" with ram pump up, it's rocking, cool enough to do some after effects as well.
MBP's are overkill on price for not much more processing power and you wouldn't push it far enough to ever find out.

why not:
- replace your current hard drive with a newer, larger, faster (RPM) drive
- get more/max amount/new RAM
- update the graphics card to whatever max it can handle is
?for £150 you will have all you need and more, surely. essentially, what ian said prior.
- This is a good option. I don't think I saw Ian's advice to this effect.SkyPoo

I suggested a fuck-off huge harddrive, as you said space (in gigs) was a premium. this is a good idea though, as the towers are built to be upgradeable whereas you're limited to how much you can cram into an imac or laptop.

Get a PC with an EFI capable Intel chipset and install OS X if you need a constantly spinning beachball to make you work.
- ORR just run windows and keep your shit clean.rounce
- or get an intel mac and install windows on it so he can learn how to use windozJnr_Madison

Maybe if someone benchmarked a Mac Pro and a new iMac, that might help you make your decision?
It might be worst adding more RAM too. I hear Apple is expensive though, try a 3rd party.

Id like to point out that if you're working on huge PSD files then your hdd speeds and ram are all that are gonna matter, with cpu affecting it after that. from my experience that is. cpu helps but if your ram and hdd speeds are slow then it will always wait on that.
