    ^
To touch on the healthcare issue.

IT not just a legislation problem...No Argument for universal healthcare can take place without tackling the corruption and ineffectiveness of western medicine in long term care in treatment of disease and disease PREVENTION. (Short term emergency care? its the best). Long term its Big Pharmaceuticals, and they are corrupt, FDA is corrupt and now your combining the disfunction into regulatory, compulsory purchase and Tax enforcement entity IRS? Nice.

Thats a formula for what we want is going to be different from what you get.
The direction that big pharma wants go contradicts the direction of where efficient inexpensive longterm healthcare and PREVENTIVE medicine wants to go. what is shown to work excludes these large corporate structures. So what does big business do to protect their interest? Legislate it and create policy in by putting their own people into Gov like FDA, Bribery in essence.

Remember that there are doctors that are persecuted for effective treatment that bypasses, the monopolistic control of their association and interests of Big Business. especially cancer industry.

Why? because what is natural and readily available is not profitable and eventually all regulatory schemes support a political agenda over actual common sense.

Trust me if they really wanted to create an efficient universal healthcare system that was the best and didn't infringe on rights, Both the Government and Big Pharmaceuticals would put themselves out of business.

    • No Legislation is complete without the uniformed useful idiots.yurimon
  • locustsloth0

i concur that corruption must be detected and prevented, that goes without saying. But it's not really any different than the current model where Pharma lobbies and puts money in the pockets of politicians.
i'm curious if you have any ideas about what WOULD work as the free market model is as problematic as the universal model.
(i wouldn't blame you if you didn't have an idea, as i don't)

McCain and most Republican's skips Benghazi briefing!

Most of the Republican members of a Senate committee investigating the terrorist attack at the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, skipped a classified briefing by administration officials on the incident Wednesday, CNN has learned.

The missing lawmakers included Sen. John McCain of Arizona, who at the time of the top-secret briefing held a press conference in the Capitol to call for the creation of a Watergate-type special Congressional committee to investigate how and why the attack took place.

McCain, who has accused President Barack Obama of not telling the truth about the Benghazi attack, said that even though there are several committees involved in the probe, only a select committee could streamline the information flow and resolve the "many unanswered questions" about the tragedy.

When CNN approached McCain in a Capitol hallway Thursday morning, the senator refused to comment about why he missed the briefing, which was conducted by top diplomatic, military and counter-terrorism officials. Instead, McCain got testy when pressed to say why he wasn't there.

"I have no comment about my schedule and I'm not going to comment on how I spend my time to the media," McCain said.

Asked why he wouldn't comment, McCain grew agitated: "Because I have the right as a senator to have no comment and who the hell are you to tell me I can or not?”

When CNN noted that McCain had missed a key meeting on a subject the senator has been intensely upset about, McCain said, "I'm upset that you keep badgering me."

While McCain refused to shed light on why he didn't show, his spokesman Brian Rogers emailed CNN a short time later with an explanation. He blamed it on a "scheduling error" but wouldn't provide any more detail.

According to a Democratic aide on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, only three of the eight GOP members of the committee attended the two hour briefing that ran from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET. By contrast, seven of the nine Democratic members were there.

^ Answer to free markets dilemma..
There was a free market Homeopathic/Natural Medicine, and Allopathy <- least popular most profit potential.. this won.

Medical profession was a free market but the robber baron types like rockefeller institutionalized it. By building the institutions around allopathic medicine. They formed the medical associations, built universities and made a campaigns in the press calling natural health or homeopath doctors quacks. Regardless of what worked prosecution of doctors eventually followed and alternative form became standard practice. They basically created the industry so they can profit from it. Nobody stopped them.

There is really no telling where it would be now if it was left alone however holistic is making a comeback because there is more evidence on what works and is cheaper less. at the same time you have fda raiding doctors and farms.

I am starting to think that since free markets are based on choices.
And if the choice are not legislated. If the people making choices are informed truthfully with real information(not propaganda) then choices can be made effectively.

However if you have a free market and the people are propagandized, or the culture is fukked up then can people make effective choices? can markets overcome lies and deceit?
    I dont know.

what is the ultimate goal in controlling people?. IF you control the thinking mechanism of the mind, via propaganda, lies, myth, scramble peoples morals, ability to think then you have their freedom easy.. just ask @utopian perfect example. Thats the best way to conquer an enemy. let them destroy themselves.

    • Ultimate question of the formation of the republic. Can man govern himself? or will he become a slave again..yurimon

"However if you have a free market and the people are propagandized, or the culture is fukked up then can people make effective choices? can markets overcome lies and deceit? "
No, free markets can't make up the difference when the information gulf is so wide.
The money that large companies have mean they can control the message about their product, suppressing dissent in the process. This will also be done via the free market in the form of ads (more $ = better ad coverage = wider message acceptance).
This is one of the ways big companies get big. More money means more power. More power means the ability to make more money. Rinse and repeat.
So how else does a society stop this cycle other than regulation. And yes, like anything else in life, if regulation is not tempered with moderation, it will get out of hand. But saying that everyone is informed enough, or even WILLING to be informed enough, to effectively vote with their pocket books is unrealistically hopeful

    • In a free society. people generally get what they deserve so to speak. because the responsibility for anything that happens is on them.yurimon
    • happens is in society in legislative form or market is on them.yurimon
    • this absolutely contradits your assertion that information can be presented to deceive consumerslocustsloth
    • there are overwhelmingly more instances where people don't get what they deserve, than do that it is a ridiculous assertionlocustsloth
    • I dont see how it contradicts information can be false, people do make assumptions but truth is out there also.yurimon
    • when i say deserve I dont mean karmic or if someone is a nice person. I mean cause and effect. Actions have effects whether informed or ignorant..yurimon

Benghazi is gonna get Obama in the ass, just you watch. I wonder why Patraues testified on the 14th of Sept. that he thought it was the youtube video, but now he says he knew it was a Al Qaeda from the first day and was given to the White House as such. Can you say he was getting blackmailed by the Obama administration with his known affair? Oh yes it's gonna get out that he knew about that earlier than he states as well.

Obama is a coward–if he had nothing to do with this cover-up and it was a innocent mistake, a true leader would get out in front of the American people and make sure the truth is told and reassure the American public. He is a horrible leader and a crook.

I was thinking about the video of the guy talking about the sandwich on the beach. It is actually a very good story as it highlights the fundamental difference between parties.

A democrat will share the sandwich the two people will eat and will be happy.

A republican will keep the sandwich and he will be happy.

Trickle down economics will never work.

Why is Benghazi getting so much attention? Seriously. I'm not trying to be callous here, it's fucking terrible what happened to the ambassador and his team.

The US has 133 ambassadors, 290+ embassies and consulates, all over the world. The attack occurred at consulate which was also apparently a CIA outpost. To expect any American, even an ambassador to just pick up the phone and have Marines there within hours is completely unrealistic. That's not even logistically possible unless you have Aircraft Carriers or a Military convoys near by, ready to go.

From all reports I've read this was a sporadic attack and over within a few hours. Libya is barely a country, still in civil war. Terrible tragedy for the Americans involved. An unexpected event in a war torn country. The main argument here is not what happened, but how it was labeled when it happen and whether there was any political motivations.

Was it a spontaneous riot based on a shit movie? Was it a terrorist attack? Who gives a fuck. The reaction will be exactly the same.

Conservatives are hell bent on winning their political wars just trying to make this president look bad. This is a losing battle for the Repubs because it doesn't matter who was in office, it would have still happened. Guaranteed.

    • Obama covered up the true story to get reelected. That and we did not do anything to help them-incompetence–wh... would you expect from a community organizer? Way to put a cheerleader in charge of the worlds greatest military, good job.whhipp

Seven (7) attacks on U.S. embassies and consulates during the Bush years, and not a peep from the Republitard's and or their propaganda machine... Faux Fox News.

One (1) attack on a U.S. embassy under Obama and the Republitard's and Faux Fox News are having a hissy fit, fucking hypocrites!

  • chossy0

The videos is a republican comparing helping out your fellow american to two people walking on the beach both hungry and the republican wanting to keep the sandwich.
Remember when you were a child and you didn't want to share with your brother or friends, and your parents came in and told you not to be a wee shite clipped you round the ear and made you share. Well that's the same thing here. Republicans are little brats.

    • Unless your parents were republican of course they would think it was perfectly fine to not share.chossy
    • So your saying your still trying to relive your child hood? and your parents beat you?yurimon
    • who cares republican -dems. Your comparison is worthless and infantile. Move on you propagandist..yurimon
    • Fuck off, neocon.aaux
  • whhipp0

It kind of reminded me of, you know, when that kid down the street got everything handed to him without doing chores or working for anything he got... all the neighbors said he was a spoiled brat... then he grew up with no responsibilities, turned to drugs, dropped out of school, got his girlfriend pregnant, dead beat dad... and now insists the government take care of him–cause its the responsibility of the country to take care of his mistakes.

Grow up. Republicans aren't against helping our true needy and helpless citizens without waver. But we also know that a system that enables a larger growing group of dependents that are not truly needy nor helpless is a disaster waiting to happen and will infringe on the true group of needy and helpless... so who are the bastards now? The ones that want to protect the moneys for the truly less fortunate or the low scum that apply for benefits taking from the truly sick and needy?

    little example:

    • So now you are changing your tack to say that you will help the needy out. This is good news.chossy
    • More progression in this direction is great :D see you republicans can change for the better.chossy
