Obama talked about 'gun tracing' in 2009
    http://townhall.com/tipsheet/kat…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?fea…

Attorney General Eric Holder and President Obama still deny authorizing the lethal program, despite President Obama specifically asking Holder to conduct a complete review of current gun enforcement policies during a joint press conference in Mexico City with Mexico President Felipe Calderon in April 2009. The quote below starts at 1:16 in the video.

“Our focus is to work with Secretary Napolitano, Attorney General Holder, our entire Homeland Security team, ATF, border security, everybody who is involved with this to coordinate with our counterparts in Mexico to significantly ramp up our enforcement of existing laws. In fact, I’ve asked Eric Holder to do a complete review of how our current enforcement operations our working and make sure we are cutting down on the loop holes that are causing some of these drug trafficking problems. Last point I would make, is that there are going to be some opportunities where I think we can build some strong consensus I’ll give you one example and that is the issue of gun tracing, the tracing of bullets and ballistics and gun information that had been used in major crimes.”

So let me get this straight, President Obama specifically asked Eric Holder to do a “complete review” of “current gun enforcement operations,” in April 2009, yet Eric Holder and President Obama deny they authorized or knew anything specific about Operation Fast and Furious until 2011? It seems too “coincidental” that the President of the United States was talking about “ballistics and gun tracing” in April 2009, when Operation Fast and Furious started in Fall 2009, especially when the agencies he listed in the 2009 press conference, DHS, DOJ, ATF, “everybody involved,” match up with Newell’s admission about which agencies came up with the idea for Fast and Furious in the first place, which included, as stated above, DEA, IRS, ATF, DHS, and the Obama DOJ.

Germany blames Chinese land buys for Africa drought

    http://news.yahoo.com/germany-bl…

Germany's Africa policy coordinator on Thursday blamed China's practice of buying up land in the Horn of Africa for contributing to the devastating drought ravaging the region.

Guenter Nooke told the daily Frankfurter Rundschau it was clear that "this catastrophe is also man-made".

"In the case of Ethiopia there is a suspicion that the large-scale land purchases by foreign companies, or states such as China which want to carry out industrial agriculture there, are very attractive for a small (African) elite," he said.

"It would be of more use to the broader population if the government focused its efforts on building up its own farming system."

He said that the Chinese investments were focused on farming for export which he said can lead to "major social conflicts in Africa when small farmers have their land und thus their livelihoods taken away."

Debt Showdown is "Political Theater" Burdening Society’s Most Vulnerable
    http://www.democracynow.org/2011…

Republicans have agreed to a vote today on a budget plan they say will cut the deficit $917 billion over 10 years. The move sets the stage for a showdown against unified Democratic opposition in the Senate and threats of a White House veto. To discuss the debt talks and economic austerity worldwide, we’re joined by Richard Wolff, Emeritus Professor of Economics at University of Massachusetts Amherst and author of several books, including "Capitalism Hits the Fan: The Global Economic Meltdown and What to Do About It." "This is political theater in which two parties are posturing for the election coming next year," says Wolff. "To put it in perspective, the number of times the government has raised the debt ceiling since 1940? Ninety, almost twice a year. This is a normal, automatic procedure. Every president, Republican and Democrat, has asked for it."

  • locustsloth0

i just doesn't make sense to me to cut programs for those who need them in order to feed and shelter themselves while not asking for any additional contribution from those who can weather the hit.

It's like asking a bunch of people to lug sandbags up a hil with whatever vehicle they have and telling those who have dumptrucks to not bother, while dismantling the wheels of those pulling little red wagons.

i understand that there are those on entitlement programs who, by the programs own guidelines, shouldn't be there, but that doesn't mean that we should pull the rug out from everyone on the programs. And for sure, nearly every person who is asking for massive cuts in entitlements has the image of the asshole who's bilking the system in their heads when they do it.

Palestinians say they use archaeology to 'rewrite history'

Answer me this popfodders, because it's what irks me about your posts. Why do you choose to be misleading with your headlines. It happens almost every time. Like the 'rewriting history' thing. From your headline it sounds like they're trying to invent some sort of story using archeology, when it's just that they're trying to get to the truth
'the renewed dig of the Shechem site will “give Palestinians the opportunity to participate in writing or rewriting the history of Palestine from its primary sources."'

It's like saying 'they're going to look in the cupboard and make up a fake recipe for chocolate cake' when they're actually just looking at the recipe.

i mean, i suspect it's to get a rise out of people, but even then, what's in it for you?

CAIR Wants Muslim-Turned-Christian Minister to Stop Training Immigration Officials

    http://www.christianpost.com/new…

According to CAIR, Chehab previously taught an anti-terrorism course to the Army Reserve, and is supposed to speak to U.S. immigration officers at the end of this month. But CAIR thinks that Chehab's “bias” should disqualify him from these training sessions.

“While Pastor Chehab is free to engage in missionary activities,” wrote CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad in a letter to ICE Director John Morton, “it would be inappropriate for him to train government officials who will inevitably interact with American Muslims.”

“We believe training by a person with such obvious bias against Islam and Muslims would only serve to heighten concerns American Muslims have about allegations of mistreatment at our nation’s borders.”

My point is that you post to piss people off and that's fine, just take it elsewhere. If you're not interested in actual discussions, take it somewhere else

    'Global warming' scientist under investigation

    http://news.yahoo.com/apnewsbrea…

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — A federal wildlife biologist whose observation that polar bears likely drowned in the Arctic helped galvanize the global warming movement during the last decade was placed on administrative leave while officials investigate scientific misconduct allegations.

While it wasn't clear what the exact allegations are, a government watchdog group representing Anchorage-based scientist Charles Monnett said investigators have focused on his 2006 journal article about the bears that garnered worldwide attention.

Myron Ebell, of the Competitive Enterprise Institute, could not speak directly to Monnett's case but said he believes the public has a right to be skeptical about scientific claims related to global warming.

Even if every scientist is objective, "what we're being asked to do is turn our economy around and spend trillions and trillions of dollars on the basis of claims about what's going to happen to the climate," he said, adding later: "If global warming really takes hold here in the next few years and bad things start to happen, then we can act. But right now, I think we should just be sitting on our hands, observing."
