---------------------So let's get this straight - no matter how this fiasco plays out it's going to end up costing the US $100B a year in increased interest rate payments because these fucking yokels in DC are playing chicken with the credit rating of the US. A chnage from a triple A to AA rating will incur heavier interest rates going forward and from what I read on the markets a downgrade because of this bullshit is a near certainty.

I think even McConnell and Boehner are getting fed up with the House Republicans right now...they just can't say so publicly. The House rejecting Boehner's plan is a huge embarrassment.
Obama also gets the blame for even entertaining this idea of negotiating over the debt ceiling in the first place.
But the root cause of all of this is definitely the House and the Tea Party. Along with all the idiots on the right (including some in this thread) who went around saying there would be no consequence for default

All major polls, including conservative polls, have leaned towards supporting the presidents proposal of spending cuts and revenue increases. Aside from the president completely capitulating to the Republicans demands, I don't see how this won't turn out to be anything but a political victory for the president.

House Republicans delayed by at least a day a floor vote on their package to raise the debt ceiling, the latest challenge facing Speaker John Boehner and GOP leaders as they try to avoid a default on the nation’s debt.
The decision to move the vote to Thursday or beyond came after the Congressional Budget Office reported late Tuesday night that the package Boehner crafted would only reduce deficits by $850 billion, $150 billion short of the speaker’s goal of $ 1 trillion in budget and spending cuts.
