oppppppsssssyyyyyyy....
First lady Michelle Obama appears to have violated Illinois law -- when she engaged in political discussion at a polling place! The drama began after Mrs. Obama stopped off at the Martin Luther King Center on the south side of Chicago to cast an early vote.
After finishing at the machine, Obama went back to the desk and handed in her voting key.
She let voters including electrician Dennis Campbell, 56, take some photos.
"She was telling me how important it was to vote to keep her husband's agenda going," Campbell said.
According to a pool reporter from the CHICAGO SUN-TIMES at the scene, the conversation took place INSIDE the voting center, not far from the booths.
Illinois state law -- Sec. 17-29 (a) -- states: "No judge of election, pollwatcher, or other person shall, at any primary or election, do any electioneering or soliciting of votes or engage in any political discussion within any polling place [or] within 100 feet of any polling place."
A top Ilinois State Board of Elections official tells the DRUDGE REPORT that Mrs. Obama -- a Harvard-educated lawyer -- may have simply been ignorant of the law and thus violated it unintentionally.
"You kind of have to drop the standard for the first lady, right?" the official explained late Thursday. "I mean, she's pretty well liked and probably doesn't know what she's doing."
WHITE HOUSE DEFENDS ELECTIONEERING
When questioned about the brazen nature of Mrs. Obama's campaigning, press secretary Robert Gibbs defended the action.
"I don't think it would be much to imagine, the First Lady might support her husband's agenda," Gibbs smiled.

Reading the news you'd think there's a serious economic debate going on between the right and the left. With Republicans screaming that Obama is a radical Socialist Keynesian and that these kinds of policies are doomed to failure etc etc
But in reality its an argument between two pretty similar ideologies. The truth is in America, everyone, even the left, agrees that free market economics is the way to go. The left doesn't argue that Socialism is bad, they just insist it's not what they're doing.
Then you read something like this:
http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/…
Chinese growth for 2010 at 10.5 percent
Brazil - 7.5 percent
U.S. - 2.6 percentObviously it's not really news that China and Brazil are kicking our asses. But seems like no one ever considers the fact that China and Brazil are not only (by Tea Party definition anyway) "Socialist" but far to the left of any politician that could even run for office in the US.
Everytime you hear about China the media talks about how much they have liberalized, but in reality the PRC Party has created state-owned businesses that dominate almost every sector of the economy, and they are moving even more in that direction. It's not really accurate to say they are moving towards our model of economics, more that they are creating an alternative to it.
Brazil is not as extreme but still, the government owns and directly controls large parts of the oil industry, mining, banking, insurance, etc. The largest corporation in South America, Petrobras, is government controlled. And of course Brazil spends heavily on social services, has universal health care and in some ways more generous workers rights than the US.
So given that a) Socialism never works b) far left economics always ruin a country's economy, how is this even possible? I mean forget about whatever advantages they have, you'd think these Socialist Communist Marxists (accurate descriptive terms in this case) would have run their countries into the ground. Instead they're booming.
It's very troubling but as an American my faith in free market Capitalism remains strong...

I love the tea party and the values it represents. Like using private security guards to arrest and imprison reporters:
Yup, you guys love yourselves that Constitution, doncha? Just gotta get right of those pesky liberal bits like a Free Press, right? And what better way than intimidation and violence. You betccha!
And yet you guys whine about the imaginary "New Black Panther Party" which is like two stoned out dreadlocked guys milling about. Yet you guys bring private ex-military security in humvees with automatic weapons and radio communication to a political event and that's a-ok?
- what i wonder about is the legality of renting out a public building.locustsloth

In a discussion over the whether or not public schools should be allowed to integrate religion-based ideas into science curricula, O'Donnell argued that local school districts should have the choice to teach intelligent design if they choose.
Coons said that creationism, which he considers "a religious doctrine," should not be taught in public schools due to the Constitution's First Amendment. He argued that it explicitly enumerates the separation of church and state.
"The First Amendment does?" O'Donnell asked. "Let me just clarify: You're telling me that the separation of church and state is found in the First Amendment?"
"Government shall make no establishment of religion," Coons responded, reciting from memory the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
"That's in the First Amendment...?" O'Donnell responded.
