i have no way of knowing whether Wilson's outburst was racially motivated or not. i've read some things about him that lend creedence to at least a racial undertone, but haven't done enough esearch to find out the context of thse things, so i have to throw those "facts" out until i learn more.
However, i will note that it is a breakdown in decorum in regards to the proceedings of this government. This wasn't a presidential debate. Neither was this a proceeding on the senate floor where things can get heated. This was merely a speech. All these Republicans who declared that we had to respect our president when Bush was in power are now calling Wilson their hero. There was never such an outburst by an elected official during any of Bush's speeches and there's PROOF of discrepancies in the facts he told.
So, what is the differing factor between them? Race is an easy answer, but i think it's more the political climate and the way that politics is approached in the way sports are. People have their team. Anything the other team does sucks. No credit is given. No middle ground is sought. And whatever rhetoric is needed to fulfill the goal of bolstering their own side will be used, truth be damned.
Wilson's "You lie!" is the equivalent to "we need a pitcher, not a belly itcher". Though in the context of matters that shape millions of peoples lives, it's wholly inappropriate, as i believe Wilson himself later admitted.- *enough researchlocustsloth

I mean, sure, he's to the left of Bush, I'll give you that. But you still have a set of policies that lean to the right when measured against those of most countries in Europe, who are also not communist. To the right of Canada. To the right of South America.
If Obama is communist, what does that make the rest of the world? What less communist country are you gonna flee to if Obama gets reelected?

You misunderstood my note about the local thing, zman. i thought it was funny that i mistook someone else's statements for yours and in researching it found something you ACTUALLY said that i have said to others a number of times.
And that is, if local govts had more autonomy and power and more of a sense of needing to be a community unto themselves, i think we'd be better off. Too many times people are asked to think in the abstract about their fellow citizens (healthcare is a perfect example). They don't actually know or know of these people that politicians talk about who need help, who need support. And sometimes those very people may be in their own backyard, but because of various circumstances, they never cross paths.
But if people KNEW the people they were helping, and recognized that they were a part of their community and were able to see how that person's well being was in the interest of the common good, there'd be less of a resistance to helping them.Of course this theory has numerous holes, as every other theory about the ideal way to run a society

i know when i see or hear people who identify themselves with the left spouting off tinfoil nonsense and second-hand BS, i immediately face-palm and wish they'd think critically before they speak. i was interested if you, who touts similarly conservative, or at least anti-Obama, ideas, felt the same way when watching those videos.
