This one:

I know a girl that works at canon and I can get an XSi for $662 + tax. I'm guessing that's good?
- I'm buying a DSLR myself.Gucci
- I think so. I'm looking at one at Futureshop for $699, on sale. But some have different megapixel amounts.Jaline
- the difference is the XS vs. the XSi.
XS = 10mp XSi = 12mpGucci - Yeah. But between the XSi, I think one is 12.2 and another one is 12.1. At least from my research.Jaline

Did your prof specifically say MACRO? What kinds of stuff are you going to be shooting?
Many cheaper lenses have a minimum focal length of around 30cm or more (depending on lens, focal length, etc). Some of the Sigmas have a closer minimum distance than that but not quite macro...

i have the canon 40D – Love it!

Everything I posted in my first post is specifically what the prof wants. I'm going to email her about some more details, but those are the basics.

d90, will be same sensor as d300... which i just friggin bought a month ago.. plus its 500 dollars cheaper...

If you can wait, I would opt for the D90 (ya.. I got a D300 less then a year ago, and of course they come out with a new one...)
... but I would take a card into the camera shop, shoot a few images with each camera in Raw format and see which one you like best, and with which lens. Its pretty much apples + apples between Canon and Nikon, I just have always used Nikon, so I had the lenses... But Nikon's have always felt better to me, (F4s being the best ever.. with the Giguraro design..) so it comes down to personal preference..

I've always liked Canon IQ but Nikon feel and build-quality...pylon - i wish I could wait but I can't miss two classes in a row waiting for the camera :(Jaline
- oh.. then I would just hit up a local store to seem then in person, and order off the web..nicnichols
- don't know what the deal in CA is, but I grabbed mine from B+H in NYC.. Good Luck! + post some images!nicnichols
- What I mean is: we need to have it next week for the first assignment.Jaline

a good prime macro is the tamron 90mm. Also works for portraits in a pinch.

I will definitely have to use the camera in the store probably. I have small hands :/
