avast. + search and destroy + adaware + zonealarm firewall.

clam win is good as well, didn't see it on the list

Hate to say it....but I have alot of experience on this and the free are never as good as some of the other solutions. Try Kaspersky or Trend Micro....you can find them pretty cheap.

I wouldn't advise spybot s&d or adaware... in my experience both are equally unreliable.
AVG is your best bet for a free antivirus program. Coupled with a decent firewall you should be able to prevent all but the most malicious hacks from getting ahold of your filez.

the title of the thread says "mac", most of these are windows apps.
what sort of bugs are you experiencing? there really are not many mac viruses out there, i'd be surprised if you've actually got something. your issues are probably from some other source than malware, like maybe your OS :-)

^ There are mac viruses and spyware....that's such a myth.
They are just not nearly as plentiful as with PC.
- Which, in a sense, makes them even more dangerous. At least Win users expect to get hit.anairn
- true, it's inevitable that as mac usage increases, so will viruses and spyware.designbot
- most require you to type you password and install something though, there aren't many avenues in to elevated privileges like winacescence
- .. privilegesacescence
- very similar to pc, especially with spyware...you really need to click to install something. With viruses you usually need to click on an exe file or something similar.designbot
- exe file or something similar. Though I know there are viruses that can propagate over networks w/o any input from the user.designbot

there aren't any mac viruses yet. the worst you'll get is a trojan horse application hiding in a Dashboard applet or maybe a Word PC virus stowing away in a Word file macros. give it time though. our macs will get as cruded up as the ol' PC brethren.

also, a virus app won't protect being stupid. a client recently logged into their 'online banking' via a helpful email they received. the dodgy page they entered their info into harvested the username and password and they lost some cash. they asked me about mac virus software and i offered to chip in a few bucks towards a dude standing next to the computer who could smack them when they looked like doing something stupid.

windows I used AVG.
OS X, i never needed virus protection yet.

wash your hands with soap after use. that'll get most of the bacteria.
