This client we're working for just sent us an email "Would like to meet on this Friday 5pm to discuss budget where we stand. I am sure we are on time, on schedule and on budget for all items."
Bullshit. When we went to contract with this guy he hammered home in every meeting he wanted detailed budget reports each month, which we've provided (and drives me crazy every months end). The reports have shown where we are clearly over budget and we are in certain areas - to whit he's signed off and paid us, . The contract was cost plus anyway...It's a total trap. Who the hell meets at 5pm on a friday?? If this guy pretends he is somehow magically unaware that the project is over budget in certain places?...I'm going to fold up and ram the last six monthly reports I prepared for this moron down his throat...
OK I won't, but I'll feel like it.

Why don't you pre-empt a lot of last minute heartache and send him a reminder of what's in the reports?

Crazy...this just happened to us too. Sent an invoice describing the overruns and the client was like
'Hey! thanks!, is this a statement of services?"

Pick up the phone and tell him how it is. Make sure you're both on the same page prior to the meeting, that way you won't be stressing about a confrontation and go in there with (potentially) the wrong mindset.

If he's paid you TBO I would give him the beneft of the doubt that he's mis-worded his email to you and doesn't mean to make any kind of incendiary statement.
So often in the past I've got a dose of the righteous indignation about the words sent to me in an email, and then when I've flew off the handle it turns out they were badly written and wide open to mis-interpretation.
Maybe he just means 'within the context of over-spending that has gone on, I am sure we are all in good shape generally but I need to meet with you on Friday at 5pm becuase that's when I can do it and its important to meet".
Just saying. Don't shoot the man down to you can be sure you've understood him properly.
