i need a new little desktop controller to use with Logic. was looking at maybe an m-audio axiom 25. got anything that you'd recommend?

I have a USB controller made by M-Audio, and it works fine. Good quality. But I'd think about getting more keys!
I have to say, I find only having 25 keys on my current board to be a big restriction. I've got to get a bigger one, probably a 49.

do you have the oxygen-8?
i have a few synths and an old kurzweil 88 key weighted keyboard, but they're way off to the side on stands. i just want one that fits on my desk to bang in a few notes and twiddle a few knobs.

I've been looking recently also and think I'll end up with an axiom. If I had the money I'd spring for a Studiologic... http://www.studiologic.net/VMK-1…

If you want something with more keys look into Novation and Korg.

Just got another baby for the studio, I had it for a week. I wasn't able to use it because I'm swamped with work.
But the very same Day I got it, I had a gig at a venue in solana beach, and I went for it, without even trying it I took it with me, instead of my PCR 30, (which after 4 years is falling appart) and believe it or not, plugged it in, and in 20 seconds I had figure it out.
(I did owned an MPC back in the day, construction/ navigation is very similar) makes the trigger finger look like a plastic toy

once heard a story about a guy who used midi language to program air conditioning - bizzare!

i have 2 comments.
1) i have the novation 25SL Compact and it is annoying as fuck. While Automap sounds like a cool feature, and is to an extent, the ability to easily do what you want to do is very very hard. i would go as far to say its the most counter intuitive keyboard i have ever owned. so much so i am considering selling it.
2) 25 keys is shit. i got the novation thinking it would be enough, but yep it apart from being needlessly complicated, 25 keys just doesnt cut it unless your only doing leads with it. i ended up getting CME m-keys.. it is a basic midi keyboard, but with 49 keys.
Even if you dont know how to play the keyboard, 25 keys are just annoying.
but yep, automap is buggy as fuck and just complicates the whole process a great deal more than it helps it

both the novation and the korg kontrol are good, i looked at both (smaller sizes tho). one of my mates got the korg 25key, feels good and works well with his ableton - hes not very techy either.best thing to do is go into a store and have a fiddle with them.
i looked at all the ones including the Akai pad that someone posted too as controllers for Ableton. i wanted as many knobs, keys and sliders as i could get.
I did my homework and found myself an older version of the Remote 25SL you posted.I got the Novation ReMOTE 25 from ebay for about £50
well worth the money :)
Its not tooooo compact though, wouldnt fit with a laptop in a laptop bag, but would fit in a decent backpack

Thought i might post this, its a Mod i recently made to my Novation 25SL so i can incorporate TouchOSC into my live setup.
Also just reading my post above, I want to clarify, the Novation 25SL keyboard itself is great, its the Automap software which is lame as shit. I have just done my own mappings and its awesome.
- How did you do that?boobs
- do what?
autoflavour - very cool. nice sounds.sikma
- A) What app is that on the iPhone? B) How do you attach it to the keyboard/computer?boobs
- theres no need of a second controler like the 25Sl tu use TouchOSC
Tatanka - Application TouchOSC.. and yes, i just modded the 25SL as that is what i own. in theory, any keybaordautoflavour

I ended up getting the novation 25sl, and while software is kinda shite, it works great and i likes it
- yeah the software is bunk, but the actual keyboard is solid. custom midi map and it rocksautoflavour
