I have worked for this agency for almost a year and have used one vacation today. So I took today and tomorrow off from work to move and do other stuff and I have already received two emails related to jobs that they need ASAP.
How should i approach this... Tell them to piss off or tell human resources and get a vacation day credit?
Have you guys ever heard about labor laws directed towards creatives (people in the creative industry) on salary?
wow after i wrote that i feel slightly better.

Depends on how important the problem is. This shit happens all the time to me. It is always good to leave a goto person when you leave.

As far as they know, you're moving, you don't have internet access. Walk in on Tuesday and play dumb.

Decide whether you would rather
a) mildly piss them off and let them find someone else to do it
b) be a hero and put off moving to another day

what i would do is.. ok i will get it done but i would need a comp day for it. work few hours and get a full comp day.

i took one day off all of last year, and two days off so far this year. i feel your pain...

talk with them. try to make yourself feel comfortable with their decision. just say yes. and apologise if you may have seemed angry to them. be polite and respectful. and go back to work. be kind to your hardworking fellow. as long as you be nice and do what is told to you, you'll be fine. work. and be nice.
- I do what I am told and more but I am over emotional when i feel used,********
- well then, learn to feel ok when you are used. it is popssible, as long as you put your mind to it.janne76

i think your issue is you already read the email.
if you already read it which you did then you should do the work, either immeadiately when you get back or during your vaacation. in my job it doesnt matter if you are on vacation, you have a job to do period, make the company money, if not then id advise you to look for back up gigs just in case. i personally dont care if one of my employees is on vacation if they read the email then they better do the job, also when they return if i hear it that they were on vaction yet checking email id expect to see the completed requested work first thing oterwise that employee will a talking to vacation or not.so in the end dont check your email if you are on vacation because to the company if you are then vactaion or not do the work period.
- what a dick for a boss you are.********

ignore it or tell them to fuck off.
if you respond to their "emergency" it'll only open the door for them to bug you with their alarms in the future.
responding implicitly tells them that it's ok to harass you on your days off, when in reality it's not.
unless someone's life is on the line it can wait a day or two. it's not that big of a deal.

i make it a point to let folks know that i'm going on vacation and i am not to be disturbed. when others return from vacation i point out to them that i did not disturb them while they were out. no one i work with is allowed to keep my cell phone number on their cell phones. once my creative director called me at home after hours, i let the machine get it. i called him the next morning and told him to never ever fucking call me at home, ever. i work for an agency and everybody gets so caught up in deadlines, etc. but the truth is it's just not that important. i do a good job when i'm on the job. when i'm off the clock... i'm off the clock.

yes grunttt i believe in what you are saying yet epete22 answered his email, made a thread about it and is wondering how to blast the company back thru human resources yet, in the end he opened his personal life to the company and not vice versa, so who is at fault?
you are correct by all accounts as you value your personal life, but if an employee opens their personal life to the company then the company has their right to inject themselves into the life of that employee.epete22 have your personal info taken off the company email servers or change your emails to another. if you want to value your personal environment then make it so otherwise your work is accountable by you to complete it regardless of your vacation. you should learn to delegate your work out to your other co-workers and or freelancers, this is what they are there for, to help you. also discuss a better time and action calander ahead of time if you know you are to take time off then let the ones who can help you do just that, help you make a new schedule in completing your work, rather than getting stressed and pissed off they are walking all over your time off and your personal space.
thats all, if anyone else wants to read into my advice and call me an asshole then you should re-adjust your stance and look in the mirror and say it to yourself.

i also set up my auto-responder to simply say: WTF?

1) Ask for a thousand dollar cash bonus to work on your previously scheduled vacation day.
2) Do not deliver finished piece until cash received.
