its funny how entry level in this biz was way higher 10 years ago.
yeah i know, those were the crazy dot com years, but we have 10 years of inflation, gas, houses, its all through the roof these days, and entry level is just 40-45k now, jesus h christ, something went way wrong in the last 8 years, cough cough neo cough con bastards cough cough.

you tell them 40-50k. which tells them whats the lowest you would go for. then they might say 38k. so what, if you want it. take it.
- if you really want the job, you better be flexible on the salary.akrokdesign
- 56k, daft, eh?Jnr_Madison
- 40k is high for entry lev.akrokdesign

I would say $40k/yr is where you are at. Your work is good but it's still student work.

Not madness at all. If I went solely by your folio I would guess you made at least that if not more.

Slight redirect for this post only... senior designer, Chicago... is it madness to ask for $75k?
- No.Seanbot
- $85k it is then! Great!5timuli
- i would say $75 - 85k.akrokdesign

I think he's saying he never had a design job before. If you are beginning a whole different level of job they should pay you according to the market regardless of what you made before, don't you think?
- epete220
if you never made more than 20 than they will never pay you 45. they will look at that as $25,000 pay raise. If they do you were really under paid.

Entry level to me, it just sounds like "needs training", your work is solid, and looks more like "would flourish under direction", 45k is perfect.
- d_rek0
Right, they told me to come in with salary figures for the next interview. So it is open - they know I have interactive/web skills too which is really the reason i'm asking 45k.
And I say entry-level because i've really only held intern positions until recently.

I don't think they have offered him anything, if it was 45k he was offered I would haggle but I think that's what he's hoping for?
Right?
- Yeah, sounds like they just want a salary range, right?NONEIS

take the money!!
- NONEIS0
Not saying he cant MAKE this, just that it's not normal to make more than that with zero experience. I made a bit more when I got started as well.

32 - 35k = Entry Level, 45+ = 2-3 years
- utopian20
32k

Seems reasonable. Keep working hard and a few years later, you
ll be making 6 figures like the rest of us:)

Have you ever been on salary before? I'm kind of in the same position except for my salary is a bit higher. I've been freelancing for this place for a few months and now they want to take me on full time. Not sure what to do because although I'll get full benefits and all that jazz I really won't have more opps to freelance anymore.

If you want $45K, ask for "around $50K"
