I'm looking for something similar to keycaps (which seems to be nonexistent in leopard) to show me the different keystrokes for alternate characters. Help?

Systen Preferences > International > Input Menu
Tick the Keyboard Viewer
(appears in menu bar)

Hmm still looking for something that lets you choose the typeface (like keycaps used to) but thanks again

I use Font Explorer too. It provides a nice character key map and the keystrokes needed to get the character. I don't use Font Book, but maybe it has something similar?
