Tried resetting the SMC? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT14…
You can also try zapping the pram too: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT13…
Also do a Verify and Repair privileges through Disk Utility.
Good luck!

There is a manufacturing fault on the earlier ones which caused s short internally to shut the macbook pro down (caused by a hot cpu sink melting a connecting ribbon). Heres the link: http://www.appledefects.com/wiki…
If none of the above clear it up - you might have to call Apple and see what they say. They will be able to tell you if you have a unit that needs to be modified by quoting the serial number.

Since you're running 10.4.11, download and install AppleJack - works great and does everything for you.

your battery charge could be crap. mine is and shuts down when my machine shows a 77% charge.
if this is the case a program called coconut battery will tell you the real info on your battery (http://www.coconut-flavour.com...
mine really had only 32% of original capacity. scored a new one on ebay for $50.
- dunno why its hating on that link. use the one below.sublocked

Mine did this a few times while I was using VLC Media Player. It was the weirdest thing ever. Once I closed the program (and stopped the video) it was fine. I have no idea what it means.
- Sorry, I meant that my screen turned off and then would come back on, with the CD drive checking (with nothing in it)Jaline
- Do you have AudioHijack installed?ismith
- I had a similar problem, ixed it by uninstalling the instant hijack plug in thing that came with Audio Hijack.ismith

I bought a new battery, works like a charm now. I tried all the other things, resetting SMC, PRAM, calibrating the battery, etc. See if this helps: http://www.apple.com/support/mac…
I didn't look into it since I was in a rush and had to buy a battery anyway, but you might be under extended coverage with this.
