Hi y'all,
My brother asked me to help him get a student loan by cosigning for him. Before I put my name down on anything I want to be sure I'm getting the best loan out there but I've been out of the student loan game for a while. Any suggestions on who to research? Federal isn't an option since this is in addition to that. Thanks.

there is no good option really.

yea it really doesnt matter.
Just applied for mine yesterday. Dont go with a tuition answer loan unless you have too. But its a good last resort - tough to get through the credit check tho I hear.- My FICO score is over 850 so I'm good.ninjasavant

By cosigning your brothers loan, if your brother defaults on just one payment your credit will be fucked for years to come...
- True, but he's only taking out an amount I could afford to pay off if necessary so I agreed but don't have the capitol right nowninjasavant

I hope that your brother knows how cool you are for helping him out with a loan?
- I've put a lot into turning his life around. He should be coming out to be an intern for me next year so its paying offninjasavant

I have no idea how student loans work in the U.S., but you're awesome. This year I'm going to try and pay for school without getting a loan :z

What are common rates now? It used to be easy to get a loan 8 years ago. My rate is only around 2.1% after consolidating.

apply for a grant.
you don't have to pay grants back.

stay away from sallie mae at all costs! they will ruin your life.
privatized loans = never being able to consolidate.Sallie Mae FTL!
- Yup. My wife is having that very problem right now with both Salile May and Nelnet. Banks are no longer consolidating eitherblackfrancis
