Folks I'm off to Japan for a holiday (1 week). I'll be staying in Shibuya.
Any recommendations for shopping?
Last time I went, I spent heaps of time in and around Harajuku... will probably do a bit more of that...
I want to try find quality bookstore or designer vinyl toy store this time... as well as general must see shops.
Spill the beans!

mandrake has a few locations around tokyo, the original store is in shibuya. there is a new one in akihabara that opened in may. If you are looking for books and vinyl toys, I would say spend some time in akihabara. Have fun man, tokyo is the baddest.

I would also recommend taking the train about an hour out of tokyo to kamakura. tons of temples and a huge buddha statue. Also there is a beach near there that is a crazy party in the summer time. Tons of little beach bars and hot girls.

http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e31…I'm jealous, I won't be making my way back until late march 2009. TheBlueOne is another great source for more information about traveling in Japan.

Not sure if you already been there, but Shinjuku has a nice night life with lots of awesome/cheap rolling sushi bars, I miss that a looot!

if your into electronic music instruments, definitely check out five G..
its pretty hard to find, although its right next to harajuku station.. its like a museum, where everything is for sale.leave your wallet at home tho

also definitely recommend the superfuture maps.. i printed and laminated them last we went.. not all the shops are cool, but you find amazing areas which arent listed on there.

not a hostel, but definitely a good place to stay is ryokan kimi in ikebukero. its on the loop line about 5 stations from shibuya. super friendly, clean tatami mats and futons, all polished wooden floors..
super classy but super cheap.. from memory around 7000yen a night..very highly recommended
- do they have little cameras recording me jacking off to mash reruns?Llyod
- you can ask for that room, although i think it costs a bit more
