That's exactly what the Touch is, and why it exists. A "couple extra bucks" is a over thousand extra bucks with the service charges to use the iPhone. Some people want a basic phone but a good music player.

It is It is perfectly designed, lacking a volume control button - tiny obvious thing which absence sucks and pushes you to get an iPhone.

the built in speaker seems cool if you are in a hotel or just want to play a song for someone plus if you run the Nike+ is built in an it has a longer battery life. I would get one if it could hold all my music so i will wait. I decided agains the iphone too for the same reason.

I've got one... use it everyday to keep track of time when playing 5 minute 'speed-foosball' games...

you can synch outlook to the ipod touch fine. also google suite works great, etc etc.

I got ipod touch for a birthday. I must say it's an amazing gadget. However the more I use it the more I feel I need an iphone. A lot of apps are gps based and require constant internet connection.
I can only check email at home - kind of pointless since I have a computer.

I think the iPod Touch is really nice. I like having a browser and email for the times I am sitting waiting and can get wifi. It does make me want the iPhone for the constant signal but I don't really want the service fee right now. In the end, get what you want. Personally I doubt that there is a better player than one of the iPods even if it does force you to use iTunes, which I actually like.

the rumor is they're releasing an iPod touch for the little ones. its called the iTouch Kids.
I am waiting for the iPhone to have a larger storage capacity. I have too much music.

Oh, the reason I am interested in purchasing one is because I want something that has more features on it, specifically for checking my email at random times. I want to have something more portable than a laptop. I was considering a Blackberry or iPhone, but I hardly use my current, Pay-As-You-Go phone, and could never justify paying huge phone bills each month.
Plus, the new iPod Touch has volume control buttons :)

I had an iTouch before my iphone, it was good. I used to watch stupid youtube videos in bed when I couldn't get to sleep.
