Apple TV pro/cons?

Looking to stream my mac files to a TV.
Any help appreciated.

"Hack" it and hook up an external HD directly. I'm waiting until October, because I feel like Apple has a ton of new products to release, and my fingers are crossed for a better set top box.

yeah is pretty cool, I also have ps3 doing same thing and front row on my mbp, good for the kids though.

i like it for ripped video and ripped video alone. i can't stand having to get out a DVD and putting it in and then deciding it wasn't the one i wanted anyway.
as i don't have any game consoles, it seemed good for me. i stream all content from my mac which stores all video on an external drive. the rentals suck most of the time, but occasionally something good comes along i haven't seen.

i just bought an iomega screenplay for £67 its 320 gig and plays digital files on a tv - looks like a removable HD and works really well (doesnt play MKV files tho) check pixmania.com

There's no HDMI to a Mac Mini
- There's DVI, and with the right adapter it can output HDMI.monospaced

I love mine. Save the money and get the 40g so you can just get an external drive and connect to your Mac/PC and store the files there
It's seemless when the files are on a computer vs the appletv itself. I have a 500GB firewire drive cnnected to my imac just for this purpose, and with the appletv connected via ethernet you can't tell the files arent local its so fast... Wifi on the hand has some hickups.

This is one of the products I never understood the need for.
What does it do, hook your computer to the TV? Wasn't there a cable adapter for that? (probably just as expensive, knowing Apple)

buy an harddrive that you can hook up to your tv like TVIX, then you don't have to convert everything for itunes to stream it.
