I have captured 7 hours of footage to my local HD, I now need to move it to an external drive.. Can I just drag and drop it? What folder do I drag? Do I just move the whole "FCP documents" folder then erase it locally? Will I have to reconnect the media? Please help, I am trying to avoid having to re-capture all this..

is this what I use "media manager" for?

you could use media manager then delete the old files. or you could just copy and delete the old files to the new location and then reconnect media.

Have you done any editing? If not you can just move the captured dv (or whatever) files, create a new project, import the relocated files and be done with it.
If you have render files and edits, etc you should use media manager. If you want the definitive answer though, Chossy is your guy.

so just move "capture scratch"? not the whole "fcp documents" folder?

I have done some preliminary editing, stuff I am going to end up re-doing anyway..

i agree with the second half of ephix's post. Create a folder with the projects name on the external HD, move the Capture scratch and Render Files folders to that drive. Move the ones on your internal drive to the trash (don't empty yet). Open the project and reconnect. If you're missing anything, it'll be in the trash
- yeah good point, trash and dont delete until all is workingephix
- i've been burned not doing that beforelocustsloth
