I'm going to New York next week to shop. Last time I was there we just wandered around and I don't really remember where all the design book stores and places like that are.
I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of cool design-y stores I should visit. I want to pick up some books and magazines as well (as well as the obscene amount of clothing I'll probably buy).

Yeah I've been to New York a few times, I know the areas. I'm looking for recommendations on specific stores that are totally fucking awesome.

Last time I went everyone was saying "Alphabet City"... I went to Alphabet City and it sucked, but that was a goo dfew years ago so maybe it is grate now.
I always go back to Soho time and time again. You can't beat it. Spring Street restaurant for healthy lunch, Fanellis for burgers and BMs, you got all the designer stores, all the urban boutiques, Canal Street for cheap shopping. Whybother going anywhere else.
- If you walk from times square to Soho thats a lot of shopping variety on the way.Spookytim
- do not go to times square.johndiggity
- Its a good starting point. Nothing to see there, no, but the walk to Soho is good.Spookytim

i just got back from "printed matter" on 10th ave and 20-something... theres the Strand on Broadway by union square... and B&N at union square... 35th and 7th is where all that clothes crap is, and then virtually everywhere else in soho...Theres a Fashion mag store by Bryant Park, I think called Universal something... and then theres a Universal News by YRB too... Then theres China town.
