Price for DVD cover design?

I have another question. I was recently asked to design the DVD design work for the four panels of a DVD. This was for a consulting company who wanted to farm the project out, but they told me their budget was low for this project. I gave them a pretty lowball estimate (I normally charge more to do four panel designs) as well as asked for a high resolution version of the logo they wanted on the DVD as high resolution images the client had wanted on the DVD. They said they had high resolution images available but wouldn't give it to me for the price I was asking and would go with another designer. (They also wanted the job done within 24 hours).
Question: what would you normally charge for doing DVD package design? I know there are some high end designers here who would charge a lot more than I would, but I still thought this person's estimate was WAY too low (they wanted me to do it for 100 dollars total). I told them no thank you as it wouldnt' be worth my time (I'm currently working on some projects that are for a lot more, and for me to take time off from that for 100 bucks wouln't make economic sense for me).
However, I am still new at pricing as I recently got into the freelance biz. So it's possible I had unrealistic expectations?

That's what I thought. I already charge too low as it is and I started raising my prices earlier this month (which I wish I had started doing sooner as I am getting better clients). But I gave them my old rate and they still balked. 100 bucks seems ridiculous to me and I am wondering who he is going to get to do that for him other than a student.

- Maybe. Thing is there are a ton of student designers willing to work for nothing or "credit". Either way, it's not worth the time involved for 100 dollars for me.hedgehog

A book on what *not to do... or on DVD covers? I assume the former.
