I'm going to have to side with hedge and Llyod on this. I think it's hilarious that it is a trend to talk shit about the US right now. Every other country that hates America is doing nothing but traveling down path to become the next US. I have no hate for any "country", but might not agree with the decisions that the leaders and corporate powers of those countries might make (my good ol' country included). Everyone is so obsessed with making sure they have a particular group of people to point the finger at just in case there is blame to place at short notice. Life, history, politics... it's all a vicious cycle... there will never be world peace and those that have will continue to hate those that have more and be hated by those that don't have at all. I have never really had the opportunity to travel to another country so I can't compare and contrast, but I've got it pretty fucking good here right now.

- I agree too. At the same time, you can't help but notice certain things (good and bad) when you are on the outside looking in.Jaline
- This "trend" you speak of isn't something that just developed lately. It's been going on for a while, primarily b/c of the power.Jaline
- I call it a trend because it shifts. The ol' U.S. of A is really still a toddler in terms of tenure on the country list.Point5
- ...and believe me, we see shit from the inside looking out.Point5
- i would have to say we're learning from your idiocy...we're not following down the stupid path********

I don't think anyone "hates" America (US) in the full extent of the word (to imply the people). Well, some apparently do, enough , but that's a medical condition. What most people dislike about "americanism" is the money-going attitude which prefers quantity to quality and all the grey areas and excuses it has created to justify that style of doing business. It's not about "americans". I personally have no quarrel with anyone (since I'm a lousy businessman), but - around here - some people question the cultural value of things. "America" is just an easy target, because it produces so much: good things and bad things. So you just create a filter, and you will probably be unfair when you create one.
- Yup, there is just more of everything.Jaline
- crap, my filter is clogged with saturated fat and car dealership ads... anyone have some Drano™?Point5
- They're crazy. I pity them.********
- lol @ clogged filter p5.********

I don't know about saying it's the 'GreatEST' nation on Earth, but shouldn't every American take pride in their country?
And if you really feel that there is something wrong with your country (no matter what country you live in, unless it's communist) I believe you should act before you speak.
Anyone can preach to the choir about the problems in America, but if you REALLY don't have any pride in it because of your opinions and problems you believe there are, then I think you should either do something about it, leave, or stop complaining.
I used to whine a lot about everything.
"I work too much"
"Fucking gas prices are making me poor"
"My wife bitches all the time"
"A certain race is making my property value go down"...But I realized that complaining just makes you look like a miserable person.
Instead saying stuff like
"I'm saving heavily, so that I can invest, so I don't have to work so hard"
"I bike now to work because I don't feel like getting raped at the pump anymore"
"My wife and I take a day to go out apart each week, want to go grab a drink tonight?"
"I coach a soccer team here in my neighborhood, it's a lot of fun"...Makes you look and feel more constructive, positive, and active..
Basically, I know it's trendy to scoff at people for being 'patriotic Americans' amidst a down time in our nation, and I agree there are problems.. But I think it's way more "stereotypical trashy American" to bitch and whine about problems in your own country without providing a solution.

I was actually thinking the other day that the US (and probably England) is one of the few countries on earth any foreigner has more than just an opinion about. I mean, no one knows shit about Barbados, Canada, Italy or Spain (cliches excluded). But everyone seems to have clear knowledge about America. I sometimes wonder where that seemingly solid valuable knowledge stems from.
Anyway, I'm going to bed.
