My uncle was just telling me about his trip to China. He was in a park and suddenly realized the bird sounds were played back. There were no birds anywhere he went to. I think the story was they populated birds to get rid of some insects some years ago, then they had to get rid of the birds.
People he asked there found it really hard to believe there were birds in cities in Europe.
