- work visa ? dnt i need like a sponsor ?liveforever
- will get intouch.
think they prob need meliveforever

if you're here, finding a job isn't that difficult. the hard part is finding someone to sponsor you for a visa, which is nigh on impossible unless you're a fucking rockstar. the visa process costs serious lawyer coin, are you worth it?
- Amen0
i rather stay in London!
- liveforever0
you think the only option really is to go over there for a few months on a holiday visa and go to agencies myself and ask ? or does it make any difference from just doing it here ?
- flashbender0
Do some research and don't listen to the people who tell you it is impossible.
I think there are at least 3 designers on this board who are from the UK now living and working here in the US.
One thing to be aware of, the wait for a work visa is incredibly long here - like one year - so the sooner you get started the better off you'll be.

Also be prepared for an incredible amount of stress and bureaucratic BS - I am actually in the process of doing the opposite - going from here to the UK. I have my HSMP work permit, and now I am sitting here waiting (another!) 3 months for the residency visa approval... the waiting sucks the most.
- thanks mate appreciate it
so do i apply for a work visa before iv even got a company to work for ?liveforever
- thanks mate appreciate it

I must say, flashbender, your ability to pick up UK centric vocab and slang and use it correctly is pretty good.
- I'm practicing for my move in 3 months (with a bit of luck)flashbender
- and thanks, mate!flashbender

I thought brits hate america
- They don't hate everything about the US, well some do but not everybody.Jnr_Madison
- they hate americans, but love the weatherDr_Rand
- the Brits don't hate the states as much as the rest of the world does. Both govs are cahootsmoldero

flashbender, I've thought about doing the same (trying to move to UK)...what was the process you went through? Was getting the HSMP permit difficult?
- yes indeed, I finally have it too ;P. It was very frustrating. I had to apply twice because everything has to be just >>flashbender
- right so they disallowed the first app. Now I wait for the residency visa. It was about $2K USD for everything >>flashbender
- so in summary, not too difficult, but very frustrating and stressful due to the waiting.flashbender
- What are the things that helped you get approved?ukit
- Money. It's always money. I scored my 75 points with college and earnings. My first app was disallowed >>>flashbender
- becasue I did not provide all tax records and invoices for my freelance work. THey are very strict. If you want, shoot me >>flashbender
- an email and I can send you links to the resources I used and anything that helped me.flashbender

yes, you need to find an employer to sponsor you for an h1b visa, and therein lies most of the problem.
- liveforever0
anyone know where i can find these US companies / sponsors
- _salisae_0
is there a company there that has offices in america? is there any schooling you could attend in the u.s.? you're allowed 2 months holiday time here (maybe 3 but i hear if you come for 3 you can't return for a year or 2)
why not visit and meet with agencies face to face.
- might do yeh
holidays is 3mnths then 28 days after to get out the countryliveforever
- might do yeh

It depends on the type of visa you get. I don't know that much about how the US works, but from giving this a quick read:
http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site…it seems you can get a work permit without having a specific offer from an employer.
The thing that really sucks about the process is finding information and getting answers to questions - any phone number you call is just a damn voice mail tree.
The best I can say is next week, bump this and hope one of your countrymen over here can give you some guidance.
- true thanks
suppose it dont help that my website isnt live yet eitherliveforever
- true thanks

I want to move to the UK.

Kill your dream. I have a friend in Germany who has been trying for two years to get everything squared away to work in the states. Immigration sucks. Plus they are even more messed up as soon as our border patrol was bumped up in priority.
