Do some research and don't listen to the people who tell you it is impossible.
I think there are at least 3 designers on this board who are from the UK now living and working here in the US.
One thing to be aware of, the wait for a work visa is incredibly long here - like one year - so the sooner you get started the better off you'll be.

Also be prepared for an incredible amount of stress and bureaucratic BS - I am actually in the process of doing the opposite - going from here to the UK. I have my HSMP work permit, and now I am sitting here waiting (another!) 3 months for the residency visa approval... the waiting sucks the most.
